I figure it should be easy to make Mac drivers since the hardware architecture is the same with Intel. I don't think supplying drivers for Nvidia and ATI chipsets or at least allowing all newer chipsets to be compatible with Mac and allowing the manufacturers to make drivers for the Mac would compromise the quality. On the other hand though something as simple as a video card I think would be a major step for apple in allowing people to really get the most of their mac.

On one hand I understand as Steve Jobs is a control freak and want's to ensure the efficiency and quality of all the products that have his name stamped on it. It's a shame Apple doesn't allow this kind of customization.

Have there been any rumors or reports of a new macpro coming? I just don't wan't to ditch my pc if I can't play my games and acceptable framerates/resolutions. Thanks in advance for anybody willing to help me make this switch as painless as possible. will any ddr2 memory work or does it have to be Mac specific memory? I'm guessing since the switch to Intel chipsets the parts would be more compatible but then again I don't know.

even if it's from the same chip line will I able to do it? Also I use my pc for gaming and I know a lot of games are going to be coming out simultaneously with Mac version in the future (REALLY REALLY REALLY looking forward to Star Craft 2).Ĭan I upgrade my video card for these games or am I just stuck with the slow Nvidia 7300 cards offered in the pro's now or the Quadra FX which is more for rendering and not for pc gaming? Do they even make other cards for a Mac? Like can I get a 8800 to work in a Mac? What about memory. is that correct? Also you can't upgrade them either? Like if I buy a mac pro, and want to throw 2 faster processors at a later time. My only concern is, that you have to order all Macs directly from apple and you can't custom build them with your own case etc. and I'm thinking about getting a new desktop mac for my home. I just LOVE the way these suckers operate (except the file/directory structure) but all in all I love these things. I like building pc's, overclocking the parts and make some tricked out builds with lights and window apliques etc.
